US-China Trade Talks 'A Bit Stalled,' Treasury Secretary Bessent Says

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said in an interview that there may be a call between President Donald Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping "at some point.".

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview Thursday that trade talks between the U.S. and China "are a bit stalled."

Bessent told Fox News that "at some point" there may be a phone call between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"I think that given the magnitude of the talks, given the complexity, that this is going to require both leaders to weigh in with each other," Bessent said. "They have a very good relationship and I am confident that the Chinese will come to the table when President Trump makes his preferences known."

In early April, Trump issued sweeping "reciprocal" tariffs on the U.S.'s trading partners. Late Wednesday, a federal court 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:struck them down because they were not justified under the emergency powers he cited when imposing them. However, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday that the duties 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:can stay in place, at least for now.
