Nintendo’s (NTDOY) highly anticipated successor to the Switch console will release sometime in 2025, according to a first-look trailer released by the company Thursday.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to play physical and digital copies of original Switch games, in addition to its own exclusives, the company said in a news release. However, it acknowledged that "certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported."

More details about the console will come at a Nintendo𝓡 Direct event on April 2, the company said. 

The lead-up to the Nintendo Switch 2 release comes as demand for its predecessor is dropping. I🌞n November, Nintendo cut the number of Switch units it expects to sell in the fiscal year ending March 2025 to 12.5 million from 13.5 million. The company also lowered its projections for full-year sales and operating profit.

U.S.-traded shares of Nintendo rose about 2% intraday Thursday and have climbed 14% over the past year.
