Update (Oct. 6, 2023): For today's live markets coverage, see here.

U.S. stocks rebounded from earlier losses Thursday to finish the day little changed after one Fed official's comments gave markets a lift following so-so jobs data.

The Nasdaq and the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:S&P 500 both closed about 0.1% lower Thursday, while the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Dow Jones Industrial Average finished flat.

"If financial conditions, which have tightened considerably in the past 90 days, remain tight, the need for us to take further action is diminished," said Mary Daly, President of the San Francisco Fed and a non-voting member of the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Federal Open Market Committee, at an event in New York.

New jobless claims came in at 207,000 for the last week of September, a slight increase from the week before but less than the 210,000 economists were expecting. The data could be a precursor to tomorrow's jobs report, which investors are hoping will paint a picture of a cooling labor market and dissuade central bank officials from raising interest rates further.

Bonds traded sideways, settling slightly below the 16-year high🐈s they reached earlier this week. The dollar and oil both slid for a second day.

澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Stocks rebounded yesterday, regaining some of their losses from Tuesday's sell-off as bond yields pulled backꦰ from 16-year highs.

Jobless Claims Rose Last Week, but Less Tha💫n Expected

October 05, 2023 10:59 AM EDT

Initial jobless claims rose to 207,000 in the last week of September from 205,000 the prior week, a smaller increase than economists ꦉexpected.

The four-week moving average fell to 208,750, continuing the downward trend that started at the end of August. Still, initial claims have ticked up modestly from last year, when the four-week moving average was 190,750.

There have been signs lately of a weakening labor market. The U.S. unemployment rate ticked up to 3.8% in August, still historically low but its highest this year.
